Humidification for the Explosives Industry
During the production and storage of explosive devices humidity control is especially important to control the accumulation of static electricity.
A static discharge can create serious risks in industries handling explosive substances; a small electrical spark may ignite explosive mixtures. The lower the humidity is the greater the risk of electrostatic shock.
In addition, each explosive has a limit of electric charges beyond which it is likely to go off. It follows that with the handling of explosives, there is always a risk of static electricity to this dangerous level unless positive action is taken to prevent its accumulation.
Static electricity can be avoided by maintaining a humidity level above 50% relative humidity as moisture dissipates static electricity.
Humidifier selection depends on the zone location and may need to be ATEX explosion approved.
