Humidification for data centres
The need for humidification in data centres arises because of the fact that electrostatic discharges (ESD) can seriously damage electronic components, even if these discharges are not visually or acoustically obvious.
The heat generated by equipment combined with a poor recirculation of air can easily cause the rH to fall below 35%, the limit recommended to avoid a serious risk of electrostatic discharge.
By controlling temperature and humidity, the server components at board level remain within the temperature and humidity specified by the manufacturer.
A temperature range of 20-25 ºC, rH of 45-60% and maximum dew point of 17 ºC, are ideal for data centre environments.
