Automotive and Aerospace Humidification
Automotive and aerospace industries use waterborne enamel paints to cover the bodywork of cars and airplanes, which require precise control of ambient temperature/humidity conditions.
Low relative humidity causes the early evaporation of water contained in the droplets of the spray paint, reducing the coverage capacity and fluidity.
Too high humidity leads to defects due to excessive dilution of the layer of enamel deposited on the body and the formation of small pockets of liquid that evaporate during the drying stage, forming small craters on the painted surface.
Benefits of controlling humidity:
- Provide optimum paint transfer
- Improve the finish of the bodywork
- Eliminate the build-up of static
- Reduce sanding times
- Decrease ambient temperatures
- Provide the required air humidity levels for engine testing
Spray Booths
The optimum humidity for the transfer of paint from the gun body is 72% rH. This prevents the evaporation of water-based paint and allows paint to reach the body of cars as the manufacturer intended. By controlling the humidity correctly paint cost are reduced by avoiding evaporation.
Sand Decks
The optimum humidity to eliminate static in a sand deck is 55% relative humidity. At this level, the water content in the air changes the electrical charge of dust so it's the same as the surface of the car. This results in dust running off the cars body instead of being attracted to it, reduces the sanding time and improves the quality of finish.
Engine Testing
When designing cars that are suitable for worldwide use, the engine must be capable of operating in different temperatures and humidities. Humidifiers can recreate these conditions and are an essential part of the factory air conditioning supply of these areas.
The CAREL humiFog humidifier is the perfect solution for paint booth applications, guaranteeing accurate humidity control and energy savings. It is also available in a free silicone version that is specially designed for paint booths.
